You can swap cassette player with a digital recorder that has ‘remote’ and ‘Mic’ jack on it. (They are labeled). Insert 4 “C” batteries or connect power adapter to recorder (not included). Recorder automatically turns on and starts recording phone call as soon as phone is picked up.
