Sears hired ILCO to produce a line of padlocks. ILCO took their standard, highly reliable solid brass 5-pin tumbler padlock bodies and stamped the "ELGIN" oval logo onto the front mold exclusively for Sears' retail inventory our lock exists because of Sears, Roebuck & Co. In the late 1930s and 1940s, Sears used "Elgin" as an exclusive, in-house private-label trademark for hardware, tools, and toolboxes. This is a great piece for hardware and lock collectors, and would even make a fun restoration project. Sorry, the key has been lost to time.
